Telecom Egypt and Huawei Join Forces to Rollout 5G Network in Egypt
Partnership Marks a New Era in 5G Technology
In a significant development, Telecom Egypt (WE), the leading mobile and internet services operator in Egypt, has announced a strategic collaboration with Huawei, a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, to implement advanced technological solutions in preparation for the rollout of 5G services across Egypt.
Pioneering 5G Network in North Africa
Telecom Egypt forges a partnership, positioning WE as North Africa’s pioneer in adopting comprehensive internal and external communication solutions. This move enables WE to maintain its leadership in delivering innovative technological solutions and premium wireless services to customers. Meanwhile, a recent report predicts the Egyptian wireless market will grow at a staggering 45.6% CAGR from 2023 to 2028. Consequently, this partnership arrives at a opportune time, bolstering the region’s ICT infrastructure with advanced 5G Network capabilities.
Enhancing Broadband Internet Experiences
Huawei integrates its BladeAAU technology, featuring high-bandwidth Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) capabilities, into Telecom Egypt’s network. Additionally, Huawei incorporates DIS 5G technology supported by Pico Remote Radio Units (pRRU) to enhance the infrastructure. This integration delivers better broadband internet experiences, ensuring high-speed connectivity and exceptional quality. Furthermore, initial tests have demonstrated remarkable performance, with internet speeds exceeding 300 Mbps, setting a new benchmark for user experience in Egypt, paving the way for a robust wireless network, including a future 5G Network.
Accelerating Digital Transformation
The introduction of DIS has proven to outperform traditional distributed antenna systems (DAS) in terms of capacity and user experience. This partnership will enhance ICT infrastructure in Egypt, thereby accelerating digital transformation initiatives through cutting-edge technologies. As stated by WE CEO Mohamed Nasr Eldin, “This cooperation will enable us to maintain our leadership position in delivering innovative technological solutions and high-quality 5G services to our customers.”
Additional Technological Enhancements
Telecom Egypt pioneers Egypt’s digital transformation by deploying Huawei’s cutting-edge solutions. Firstly, WE strengthens the country’s core network infrastructure by implementing the Lightweight Distributed Session Border Controller (SBC) and Ultra Capacity IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Next, WE and Huawei join forces to establish Africa’s largest fixed-network IMS, featuring an energy-efficient SBC for future voice core network deployments. Furthermore, this IMS will efficiently serve 12 million VoBB subscribers and private branch exchanges (PBX) using the ENUM function. Meanwhile, high-performance Huawei servers power this advanced infrastructure, minimizing physical footprint and energy consumption to support a robust wireless network.
Streamlining Maintenance and Operations
Telecom Egypt and Huawei develop an automated orchestrator, unifying management across cloudOS and IMS virtual network functions (VNFs). This innovation optimizes resource scheduling for balanced utilization. Consequently, the core network achieves high reliability, supporting over 10 million fixed users simultaneously. Meanwhile, Huawei Egypt CEO Benjamin Hou emphasizes their commitment to providing leading global solutions. These solutions empower Telecom Egypt to establish a robust foundation for its wireless network, enhancing 4G capabilities while paving the way for a future-proof 5G Network.
Telecom Egypt achieves a significant milestone in Egypt’s digital transformation journey by rolling out a cutting-edge wireless network. With Huawei’s innovative solutions, WE is poised to deliver exceptional wireless services to its customers, solidifying its leadership in the region’s ICT infrastructure. As the wireless market continues to grow, this partnership is expected to play a vital role in shaping Egypt’s digital future, paving the way for a robust 5G Network.
