Fostering Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation

Representatives of the Moscow City Duma and Astana Maslikhat have expressed their desire to expand co-operation in various spheres, fostering a stronger bond between the two cities. This partnership aims to promote the exchange of advanced solutions in urban economy, transport, medicine, and social security.

Deepening Historical Ties

“We have a deep respect and interest in the ancient history and culture of Kazakhstan,” emphasized Aleksey Shaposhnikov, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma. The historic ties between the two nations create a strong foundation for long-term bilateral relations. Additionally, the geographical proximity of the two cities makes it an essential factor in the constant development of co-operation.

Supporting Families and Fostering Urban Development

The Moscow City Duma has crafted a comprehensive support system for families throughout a child’s developmental stages. Consequently, numerous advantages are available to low-income households and those with disabled children. Annually, Moscow allocates a staggering 89.5 billion roubles for family-related disbursements. Aleksey Shaposhnikov noted that roughly 500,000 families benefit from these provisions. Moreover, the metropolis has fostered an environment conducive to athletic pursuits. Notably, the previous year saw the inauguration of 23 substantial sports complexes. This approach mirrors efforts in other cities, such as the Astana Maslikhat’s initiatives to bolster family welfare.

Astana Maslikhat: A Valuable Partner

The Astana Maslikhat’s chairman, Yerlan Kanalimov, emphasized the significance of hosting Astana Days in Moscow. This event fosters deeper bilateral cooperation. Kanalimov expressed eagerness to glean insights from the Moscow City Duma’s expertise in governing a vast metropolis. Furthermore, the Kazakh representatives seek to comprehend the Russian capital’s budgetary strategies and legislative processes. Additionally, they aim to explore Moscow’s urban enhancement initiatives, IT sector support, and digital service integration. The city council’s interest in these areas underscores the potential for knowledge exchange between the two legislative bodies.

The Moscow City Duma and Astana Maslikhat have a long history of cooperation, with plans to further expand their partnership. The head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow welcomed the members of the Kazakh delegation. “There is a very good practice of co-operation between Moscow and Astana. We co-operate in urban planning, culture, preservation of cultural heritage, development of creative industries,” he stated. Moreover, he invited the Kazakh delegation to participate in the International Municipal Forum of BRICS countries, which will be held on 27-28 August within the framework of cooperation with BRICS countries and partners of the city of Moscow.

By strengthening their ties, the Moscow City Duma and Astana Maslikhat can work together to create a better future for their citizens, leveraging each other’s expertise to drive progress in urban economy, social security, and beyond.
