Strategy for BRICS

Implementation by BRICS of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development promoted and enhanced cooperation on advancing sustainable development in three dimensions – economic, social and environmental – in a balanced and integrated manner. BRICS intensified interaction in the fields of addressing climate change, enabling sustainable energy consumption and generation, enhancing the quality of human capital with one of the goals being eradication of poverty, as well as solving the issues of land and water pollution

Partnership in Climate Change .

BRICS emphasize full implementation of the Paris Agreement within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), adhering to principles of equity and differentiated responsibility based on national circumstances.

The BRICS countries acknowledge the urgency of addressing climate change. Their strategy focuses on collaboration to achieve these goals.

By working together on these initiatives, BRICS nations hope to make a significant contribution to global efforts to combat climate change and build a more sustainable future.

Attract Investment in Green Solutions: BRICS aim to create an environment that attracts investment in projects focused on reducing emissions, adaptation programs, and increasing greenhouse gas absorption.

Cooperation on Green Technology: The BRICS Environmentally Sound Technology Platform is crucial for facilitating collaboration on clean technologies. This may involve leveraging the climate finance mechanisms under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement.

Low-Carbon Future: BRICS encourage the use of low-carbon technologies and development of incentives to promote their adoption.

Sustainable Waste Management: Collaboration on waste management practices, including collection, recycling, and responsible disposal, is a priority. Promoting circular economy principles and sustainable consumption patterns is also emphasized.

Supporting National Climate Plans: BRICS will cooperate in the implementation of each country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and related plans to address climate change.

Partnership in Sustainable Energy .

BRICS will work together to enhance energy conservation and promote energy efficiency practices and systems.

The BRICS countries recognize the need for a secure and sustainable energy future.

By implementing this comprehensive strategy, BRICS nations hope to secure a sustainable energy future for their citizens and contribute to global efforts in combating climate change.

Research & Development: Collaboration on energy research will be crucial, leveraging existing platforms like the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform and the Roadmap for BRICS Energy Cooperation 2025.

Energy Security & Stability: BRICS aim to work together to ensure energy security and stability in global energy markets.

Balanced Energy Mix: Promoting a balanced energy mix that includes non-renewable and renewable sources like natural gas and liquefied natural gas is a goal. Developing sustainable energy infrastructure is also a priority.

Nuclear Energy Consideration: While the focus is on clean energy, BRICS acknowledge the potential role of nuclear energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Renewable Energy Leadership: BRICS plan to stimulate cooperation in renewable energy sources, promoting their use in power generation, transportation, heating, and industrial sectors.

Clean Transportation: BRICS aim to promote energy efficiency and reduce emissions in the transportation sector by encouraging cleaner technologies like electric vehicles and biofuels.

Advanced Clean Energy Technologies: Collaboration on developing and deploying advanced clean energy technologies is a key focus area.

Minerals for a Low-Carbon Future: Cooperation on minerals used in clean energy technologies and low-carbon strategies is emphasized.

Economic partnership in
Infrastructure Development .

BRICS will exchange information on best practices and policies related to transport and logistics, potentially leading to long-term cooperation programs.

The BRICS countries are committed to modernizing and expanding their infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve the lives of their citizens.

By working together on these infrastructure development initiatives, BRICS nations hope to create a more interconnected, efficient, and sustainable future for their citizens and economies.

Modernizing Infrastructure: This includes upgrades to industrial facilities, transportation networks, logistics systems, and other essential infrastructure across all BRICS nations.

Interconnectedness: Developing interoperable infrastructure will be crucial for enhancing air, land, and sea connectivity among BRICS countries.

Transnational Systems: The creation of safe, resilient, and efficient transnational transport, logistics, and ICT infrastructure in both urban and rural areas is a priority.

Efficient Urban & Freight Movement: BRICS aim to ensure efficient city transport systems, freight movement, dynamic traffic control systems, and passenger-friendly services.

Sustainable Urban & Rural Development: The focus is on sustainable development of both urban and rural areas, leveraging innovative technologies and sharing experiences among BRICS nations.

Smart Cities Initiative: Promoting the development of smart cities within the BRICS group is a key goal.

Economic partnership in
Human Resources .

BRICS nations will exchange successful strategies to promote access to quality and inclusive education, potentially leveraging digital technologies.

The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) recognize the importance of investing in human resources and social development to achieve sustainable growth and improve the lives of their citizens.

By tackling these crucial human resource development challenges collaboratively, BRICS nations aim to build a more inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable future for all their citizens.

Eradicating Poverty: BRICS aim to work together to eradicate poverty in all its forms, acknowledging it as the greatest global challenge and a core objective of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This will involve focusing on sectors with high poverty reduction impact, such as education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

Improved Quality of Life: BRICS will strive to improve the quality of life for all citizens, including those in urban and rural areas, by ensuring access to essential social services and infrastructure.

Social Security Systems: Developing and strengthening social security systems in BRICS nations is a priority to ensure prosperity for all population groups and future generations.
