Russia’s 2024 BRICS Chairmanship
began on Monday, January 1.
Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates joined BRICS as new full members which is a strong indication of the growing authority of the association and its role in international affairs.
President Vladimir Putin has announced that the guiding principle for this tenure will be “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security”.

The BRICS Chair is a rotating leadership position held by the member countries of the BRICS alliance, with the goal of fostering economic collaboration, mutual understanding, and collective action among its member nations. As the primary facilitator of dialogue, decision-making, and joint initiative implementation, the Chair is a vital component of the BRICS framework, playing a crucial role in driving progress and cooperation among its member states.

Russia is the current Chair of the BRICS Summit, taking over from South Africa in 2023. During its chairmanship, Russia will focus on promoting economic cooperation, trade, and investment among the BRICS member countries, as well as strengthening the organization’s role in global governance.
