BRICS Ministers of Agriculture Meeting 2024 June 28, Moscow, Russia
The 14th Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Agriculture was held on June 28, 2024, in Moscow, Russia. The meeting was chaired by Oksana Lut, the Russian Minister of Agriculture, and was attended by representatives from BRICS countries.
During the meeting, several key points were discussed:
1. Export growth: Russia’s agriculture exports to BRICS countries are expected to grow by approximately 6% in 2024, potentially exceeding $16 billion. This represents a significant increase from the previous year’s exports of $15 billion, which accounted for over one-third of Russia’s total agricultural exports.
2. Current export status: As of June 28, 2024, Russia’s agricultural exports to BRICS countries had already surpassed $7 billion for the year.
3. Cooperation expansion: The ministers focused on possibilities to expand cooperation among BRICS countries in the agricultural sector, with new “growth areas” being outlined during the meeting.
4. Food market stability: Minister Lut emphasized Russia’s commitment to ensuring stability in the BRICS countries’ food market, stating that Russia would continue to act as a reliable supplier for its partners.
The meeting of BRICS Agriculture Ministers was part of Russia’s chairship of BRICS in 2024, with the Roscongress Foundation managing the events related to Russia’s BRICS chairship.
It’s worth noting that this agricultural meeting was one of several BRICS-related events held in Russia in 2024. Another notable event was the International Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance scheduled for May 30-31, 2024, which, while not directly related to agriculture, demonstrates the broad range of cooperation among BRICS nations.
