BRICS Culture Ministers Meetings 2021 July 2 virtual hosted by India
The 6th BRICS Culture Ministers meeting was held virtually on July 2, 2021, under the chairship of India. The meeting’s main objective was to strengthen cultural cooperation among the BRICS nations, focusing on “Bonding and Harmonizing Cultural Synergy”. During the meeting, the ministers agreed to facilitate exchange of films and cinema between the member countries. They appreciated the BRICS Cultural Festival hosted by Russia in an online format, which marked the beginning of virtual cultural cooperation in response to the pandemic.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to encourage and extend support in preserving, restoring, and exchanging information, expertise, and skills in the field of cultural heritage. They agreed to facilitate cooperation on the safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage through exchange of information, experts, and good practices, as well as joint training programs.
Moreover, the ministers looked forward to the successful opening of the BRICS Corner in the National Library of India under the auspices of the BRICS Alliance on Libraries during India’s BRICS Chairship. They also agreed to facilitate the establishment of a BRICS Alliance between cultural institutions of member countries in the areas of conservation, preservation, and digitization of ancient manuscripts and archival materials.
Additionally, the ministers encouraged initiatives to promote literature by encouraging classics’ mutual translation and exchange of translators, and to support partnership programs that will further this objective within their respective areas of competence. They also looked forward to the BRICS Cultural Cooperation continuing to gain further momentum and wished for stronger mutual bonding.
